The Kids from Fame – ‘Starmaker’

The Kids from Fame - 'Starmaker'

Aside from ‘Fame’ the theme song, I also remember a Fame single called ‘High Fidelity’ but I don’t know this ‘Starmaker’. So, as I did with ‘Stars On 45’, I will listen to this LIVE for the first time as I write this. What am I expecting? Well, even though the title suggests Broadway and jazz hands, ‘Fame’ and ‘High Fidelity’ were both up-tempo so I’d take an each-way price on this being a ‘slowie’.

[One listen later]

Well, that was terrible. Not quite a slow one, but whatever the Broadway musical equivalent is of a lighters-and-waving ‘meaningful’ AOR ballad. Dreadfully banal Songwriting-for-Dummies lyrics: lots of sea and waves and standing on the shore, because that’s how you say in a song that your feels are really real. You could imagine Gary Barlow hearing this and making his ‘hey, not bad!’ face, a bankable omen that this lot will soon be back waiting tables. That’s showbiz!
