Perhaps my small-child brain only had room for the World Cup in Mexico at that time, but I don’t remember ‘The Edge Of Heaven’ making much of an impression on me. Another explanation is that ‘The Edge of Heaven’ doesn’t make much of an impression anyway. It’s more or less the same as ‘I’m Your Man’ the previous year: another frothy, randy Wham! ’60s soul-pop pastiche, even down to the same style of black-and-white, rock-and-roll, beard-and-fringed-jacket video.
This was the last Wham! release. Next up would be George Michael’s ‘serious artist’ new direction, which would no doubt be a million miles removed from these laboured, risible, attention-seeking Wham! singles about a pushy, aggressive guy wanting sex.
