You’re kidding, right? The Berlin Wall had fallen, Nelson Mandela was free, but we still have Jive Bunny records at number one? So much for the end of history.
Wait: it gets worse. Amazingly, the sweatshop owners behind this wretched enterprise have found the formula to make a Jive Bunny single that is approximately 38% more dreadful than its predecessors. Their secret? Instead of a mashup of samples of classic oldies, ‘That Sounds Good To Me’ is a mashup of covers of classic oldies, mainly ‘Everybody Needs Somebody To Love’, hence the Blues Brothers get-up on the sleeve (above). Naturally, those covers sound like they’re all performed by the same Saturday morning keyboard teacher. It’s a relentlessly cheap and amateurish record. And still, enough copies were bought to send it to number one in the pop charts of a developed country. You people of 1990 sicken me.
