Oh, I know why this went to number one, in Ireland and the UK. Put it this way, it wasn’t because of the hi-NRG remix with just the chorus, or the version with the verses blanked, or even the version with cleaner words instead. The outlaw glamour of its smutty, sexually explicit lyrics was such that someone in Kerry contacted me in Dublin to ask if I could get this single for them. I may have not bothered getting back to them on it.
The uncensored original video for ‘Don’t Stop (Wiggle Wiggle)’ is depressingly crass, leery, sexist, and degrading to women, so there’s no doubt about the mindset at work here. If you like this record then you are complicit in that and you are a creep.
