30 June 1995

“Boom boom boom / Everybody say way-oh! (way-oh!)” That was the sound of summer 1995, with the occasional burst from Hill 16 of a Jayo version. I hadn’t realised the source of that ambient noise was the house of the moronically sexist ‘Don’t Stop (Wiggle Wiggle)’. Since I couldn’t remember anything of the verses, or if it even had verses, I approached ‘Boom Boom Boom’ with minimal enthusiasm.
Unsurprisingly, this Outhere Brothers track also exists in clean and explicit versions, the chorus of the latter replacing “everybody” with America’s favourite Oedipal M-word. As for the verse raps, their lyrical concerns remain the nether regions of girls, mostly in tame references to “booty” but also the more arcane wish to “slip my peter inside your folder”. I looked it up online and, believe me, you’re not missing much. No one ever lost money by overestimating the appetite of immature guys for immature smut like this.
