Westlife – ‘Queen Of My Heart’

Westlife - 'Queen Of My Heart'

There’s a weird moment in the video for ‘Queen Of My Heart’, which you can see at the end of these few lines, where Westlifer Nicky takes out a set of clippers from his back pocket and shaves off his hair. Statement of ascetic religious devotion? Treatment for head lice? Or just an act of desperation to give this track something memorable? I’ll go for the head lice.

‘Queen Of My Heart’ is essentially a badly-glued-together Airfix model of ‘Mull Of Kintyre’, complete with rustic accordion and military drum tattoo, to meet the Westlife standing brief of first-dance wedding reception songs and also a seasonal tilt for the Christmas number one spot. And don’t forget the patented Westlife key change! Its blandness is a function of its cynicism. Again, I’ll go for the head lice.
