Brian McFadden - 'Like Only A Woman Can'

There’s a dedicated ulcer in the wall of my stomach for songs written by men about what they think Women are, can, like or do. And here comes Brian McFadden’s latest Irish number one to get my gastric juices flowing like only a song called ‘Like Only A Woman Can’ can. The guy in it is a bit of an asshole, so it’s a good thing he has a “perfect” woman on hand to do all the heavy lifting of adult responsibility: “she cleans me up” and the like. Time passes, tumbleweed rolls down the street, but the penny never drops: how about you clean yourself up, bud?

Anyway, the track is in James Blunt ‘You’re Beautiful’ territory: pro forma ’00s soft rock balladeering with acoustic guitar and piano. I suppose it might have appealed to the more adventurous Westlife fan, if that isn’t a contradiction in terms.
