Did the world really need solo Black Eyed Peas singles? Did the world really need Black Eyed Peas singles to begin with, says you. Anyway, here we are.
This Fergie offering takes her from hip hop, or at least the Black Eyed Peas’ dumbed-down concept of hip hop, into country-pop, crossover hits being forever the dream of US music industry types. Nonetheless, even from its title of ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’ you’ll have spotted a continuation of her group’s infantilisation of women: “I’m gonna miss you like a child misses their blanket” and “I must take the baby steps ’til I am full grown” are other stomach-sinkers here. And all this because she and her man have some sort of vague parting of the ways in line two. Country music and the Black Eyed Peas are welcome to each other.
