Elvis again, with a landmark Irish chart-topper again: ‘Return To Sender’ is Ireland’s first official Christmas number one. And if you think that doesn’t sound too festive, return to sender is what I do with your Christmas cards. (Also, there’s an Elves Presley joke in there somewhere.)
Anyway, as with ‘She’s Not You’ this is Elvis: The Daniel O’Donnell Years again. The song is notionally one of frustration and heartache, yet the frivolous arrangement—parping sax, jolly backing singers—make ‘Return To Sender’ another family-friendly rock n’ roll parody. It’s from an Elvis movie called Girls! Girls! Girls! and I’m only continuing this sentence to demonstrate the exclamation marks are his, not mine. Yeah, I’d return this too.
