Edward Maya and Vika Jigulina - 'Stereo Love'

The last time we had a Romanian act at the top of the Irish charts, Enigma with ‘Return To Innocence’, they were embroiled in a copyright claim over a trad-sounding element. The same thing happens here for Edward Maya: the distinctive accordion line in ‘Stereo Love’ wasn’t a folk-hand-me-down in the public domain but from a 1989 track called ‘Bayatılar’ written by Azerbaijani musician Eldar Mansurov. Maya and Mansurov seem to have settled the matter amicably, though, and Mansurov is now credited on ‘Stereo Love’.

That’s the only point of interest for me here. ‘Stereo Love’ is one of those Ibiza-style trance hits that occasionally surface of a summer. Vocals, lyrics, chorus: all present, but not bringing much substance. Other than the bought-in accordion part, this is a seaside breeze of wispy sun-kissed nothingness.
