What did the people of 2011 see in Pitbull, I ask myself disingenuously, knowing full well that his brand of cheap-suited, bald-headed, gruff, sexist, thuggish assholery has never gone out of fashion. Anyway, here’s his second Irish number one single in two months and his third in less than a year. Itemising the other names here, Ne-Yo is the male R&B vocalist on the chorus, Afrojack is the cut-price Guetta equivalent, and Nayer is the token female as cover for Pitbull’s leering club-guy pushiness.
As with the works of Eminem, ‘Give Me Everything’ includes a cheap shot at a famous woman – here, Lindsay Lohan. We also get Black Eyed Peas-style wisdom about living for tonight and the moment, plus macho sexist crassness about how Pitbull’s “gonna fall on top of your girl”. The beats and sounds are Guetta-imitation dumb EDM gaudiness. Nayer’s role in the video is to be leered at by Pitbull. An actual pit bull terrier could make a more intelligent, likeable and competent record than this.
