The reference to American Apparel underwear in the chorus of ‘She Looks So Perfect’ hasn’t aged well. Many fans of 5 Seconds Of Summer have surely grown out of them too. (The band, I mean, not the underwear.) Still, 5SOS continue to release new music, and back in 2014 they found considerable success as a sort of alternative-1D: alternative in their McBusted-esque punk-pop, and alternative in simply being another outlet for 1D-style boyband content.
‘She Looks So Perfect’ could have served as a One Direction track too, being quite similar to ‘What Makes You Beautiful’. Unfortunately, where 1D could liven up this sort of skimpy teen-pop-by-numbers with their innate cheeky charm, 5SOS are fairly anonymous. We’ll see them again at the top of the Irish charts soon again in 2014, stretching out their five seconds into 15 minutes of fame before we drop them like underpants.
