Dua Lipa – ‘IDGAF’

Dua Lipa - 'IDGAF'

I feel defeated. ‘IDGAF’ must be one of the dullest tracks ever to top the charts. From its lack of a tune to its lack of a hook, the whole thing is resolutely dour and flat. The pitch is Dua Lipa serving up attitude, but her cursive monotone is a subdued mumble and none of the lyrics have any spark or colour; even the F-bomb is a damp squib. Surely this is all by design: the appearance of being disruptive and spicy, but really just bland and safe.

I can’t get annoyed by ‘IDGAF’; it’s deliberately not interesting enough to be bad. All I can do here is amuse myself with the mysteries of nominative determinism.
