It doesn’t say much for the star quality of Dua Lipa or Calvin Harris that ‘One Kiss’ puts me in mind of early-’00s randomer Euro-dance hits like Rui Da Silva’s ‘Touch Me’. Dua’s chorus vocal hook is strong, and Harris’s instrumental hook soon after is stronger still, but we used to have nameless, faceless non-celebs do this sort of work for us.
There are verses, because otherwise a twenty-second silence between each chorus isn’t the done thing; however inessential or vaporous, you ought to put something in. Still, they could have just gone full Euro-dance and kept repeating the chorus. I wouldn’t have minded. Happily, both acts here will return to the top of our charts with fare far more substantive and interesting than ‘One Kiss’.
