Later on in the ’80s I would hear this song from the folk group that occasionally accompanied whatever mass I was dragged along to as a child. Also in their repertoire was ‘The Rose’, whose baked-in melodrama always blew ‘A Little Peace’ out of the water. Even for a folk group at Sunday mass, ‘A Little Peace’ sounded twee and simple.
It won Eurovision that year, it’s competently catchy and it rides the slipstream of ‘I Have A Dream’. So, you can see why ‘A Little Peace’ was a hit. For all I know, it’s probably still sung at folk masses the world over, which is where we can leave it.
