Slade – ‘Skweeze Me, Pleeze Me’

Slade - 'Skweeze Me, Pleeze Me'

I thought I knew Slade’s ”Skweeze Me, Pleeze Me’. Turns out I didn’t. Perhaps I simply forgot it. Anyway, it’s here now, on my nerves.

If you don’t know it but you’re already familiar with Slade, don’t bother. ‘Skweeze Me, Pleeze Me’ is AI Slade: a familiar-sounding verse and chorus of screeching and riffing, but all notably bland and bloodless. The entire creative budget was blown on the title misspelling; Noddy refers to Slade’s trademark misspelling in the lyrics here because this is a Slade record about being Slade. Plus, it’s long! That verse and chorus are repeated for four and a half minutes in the quaint notion that tearing the arse out of the whole thing will somehow endear it to us. Two much-loved evergreen hits aside, Slade really were the Oasis of glam, and I mean that to hurt. Teedeeus.
