Flo Rida ft. Kesha - 'Right Round'

Sounding like the answer to the question “what if Timbaland got hit on the head and woke up thinking he was in the Black Eyed Peas?” here’s Flo Rida again. Who’s he dragging into his hot mess this time? Why, Kesha at the start of her hit-making career and Dead Or Alive with a sample of their mighty ‘You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)’.

What’s frustrating about ‘Right Round’ is that the non-Flo Rida parts work really well. Kesha adds appealing urgency to the chorus. Pete Burns’s magnum opus is used judiciously. And the track as a whole catches the light of crunk&B and EDM. But Flo Rida here is dreadful. His chorus lyric is out-and-out crass misogyny about someone going down on him. His verses are a gruff unintelligible mumble, which given the chorus is probably for the best. In the video Kesha is notable by her absence, and we would do well to follow her lead. Wrong round.
